Unique Handcrafted Artisan Pottery from Nicaragua

Hi everyone!  I just wanted to give everyone an opportunity to see some beautiful and truly unique handcrafted artisan pottery that is truly inspiring.  I came across an organization that gives artisans in Nicaragua an opportunity to sell their unique handcrafted artisan pottery and I have to say the pieces are stunning.

About the Artisans

Working with the fair trade organization Esperanza en Accion, men and women artisans in Nicaragua produce traditional pottery pieces that are world renowned. Artisans in San Juan de Oriente make the pottery using a manual kick wheel and finish the pieces using natural mineral oxides for the earthen colors. The fantastic flora and fauna of Nicaragua are the basis for stunning vase designs and novel wind instruments. The pottery is fired using a low-temperature technique so the vases are decorative as they do not hold water.

Check out these pieces!

This decorative vase from Nicaragua is 8 inches tall and 5 inches in diameter, featuring a red bird and flower design. This is low fired and not designed to hold water.

Handmade by Damaris Hernandez, this clay pot is painted and etched with designs inspired by nature. The pot, which is 5 inches tall including the neck and 5 inches wide is low fired and had a toucan design. Signed by the artist, the pot is not designed to hold water.

  1. Wow! This pottery is incredible. I love the designs on both pieces! So gorgeous! I love that they are inspired by nature and beautiful earthy colors.

The shape of that second one by Damaris Hernandez is so unique! I just love handmade pottery! I’m going to have to check out the other artisans you mentioned! Thanks for sharing!

  2. Good post, I really like the idea of creating pottery and selling it!

I can definitely see why others would be interested in purchasing beautiful pieces of pottery as they look very professional and well made!

The designs on these 2 pieces you shared look awesome, especially the second one which I really like. I even looked around at a few other pieces on that site and it would honestly be hard for me to pick a favorite design.

My question is, do you own one of those pieces and if so, which one do you currently have and is there another one you have your eye on?

    1. Thanks Arie for your comments!  I do have one of the pieces.  It’s the 5″ Toucan vase which is the second one on my post.  It’s small, but I love it!  It sits proudly on my coffee table and it is beautiful.  I honestly have my eyes on all of them because they are so unique!  I hope you decide to get one.  And thanks again, for your comments and if I can help you with anything else, please let me know!
